On August 22, 2024, we conducted a fire test in the newly built, second tube of the Učka Tunnel. The test primarily tested the functionality of the ventilation and fire alarm systems, and in parallel, the integration of all key safety systems was tested, including:
- video surveillance and automatic fire detection,
- dynamic traffic signals,
- communication systems and other technical infrastructure.
This final testing was a key step ahead of the new tunnel tube being put into service.
Just a few weeks later, on September 13, 2024 , the second tube of the Učka Tunnel was ceremonially opened, completing a multi-year project of exceptional technical and organizational complexity.
The Učka Tunnel represents an infrastructural link of invaluable importance for the daily lives of the inhabitants of Istria and Kvarner, as well as for the numerous tourists who travel along this section. The opening of the second tube has significantly increased the safety and flow of traffic, thus making an important step towards a more modern and reliable transport system in the region.
